Big, Black Eyes

Is it just me, or is there an attitude towards illustrating Far Eastern people after the Japanese Manga fashion, with large, shining eyes shaded by long, thick, black lashes?

If this goes on, my mental image of them shall change to a point where reality shall disappoint.
